The Confident Dog Instructor™
Runcorn KCAI Event
By Kim Lyddon, Founder of www.TheDogBusinessAcademy.com
I’m back home now reflecting on what a great day I had at Runcorn at the KCAI event. I’m sitting in front of my computer in my office with my cup of coffee ready as I reflect on the day. My two dogs, Tyler 5 year old handsome red tri Border Collie and Little Archie a cute but very giddy Pyrenean Sheepdog, are lying quietly beside me.
I remember being delighted when I received the invite from Laura at the Kennel Club to speak at the KCAI event; particularly on a subject I am passionate about which is helping people become more confident to increase their credibility and influence as a Dog Instructor.

Welcome to Part 2 of my KCAI Blog!
Today I’ll be writing about the recent KCAI Regional Event that was held in Runcorn, Cheshire on the 2nd of November.
As a KCAI member I took the opportunity to go to Runcorn. I wasn’t sure what it was going to be like initially so I grabbed my KCAI folder, a camera, notepad and pen and off I went!
The event consisted of 3 seminars throughout the day. Here, I write what the seminars consisted of and my thoughts on them. *Spoilers* They were all brilliant!
Seminar 1 – Working Inside the Dogs’ Minds: Behaviour and Training in Action at a Large Dog Training Centre – Jane Ardern BSc (Hons), DipCAPBT, APDT,COAPE Tutor
I thought this was fascinating, since I’ve previously run a boarding kennels I could certainly empathise with her in many areas.
Jane took voluntary redundancy with British Gas to venture into her own dog business. She ended up opening her own dog training centre in Manchester and explains the ups and downs of the process. Giving us tips and advice, she often reflected back to suggest what she could of done differently.

Good evening and a very special Happy Halloween to all of my readers!
I’ve tried to get into the Halloween spirit as much as I could so I made this attempt at carving some pumpkins..
Okay so it’s not exactly a work of art, but the thought was there…
Oh! And just to let you know, I’ll be at Runcorn this weekend for a KCAI event which should be interesting. No doubt I’ll be blogging and updating my progress next week.
The week after that is Discover Dogs which is at Earls Court in London (9th-10th November).
For those who haven’t experienced Discover Dogs it’s an event organised by The Kennel Club where the public gets to meet all 200+ pedigree breeds. Each breed has it’s own booth manned by a breeder or owner(s) and a few of their dogs. It’s a brilliant opportunity to understand each breed. It’s great place to go to find out about the local breed rescue shelters or reputable breeders out there.
I’ll be there with The Kennel Club so if you’re going to the KCAI event or Discover Dogs be sure to pop round and say hello!
Stay safe in the meantime with bonfire night!
